Switzerland to introduce pictorial warnings

Jan 10, 2008

The Swiss Federal Department of Home Affairs introduce large pictorial health warnings on all smoked tobacco products on sale in Switzerland

The new warnings will appear by no lather than 1st of January 2010 on cigarettes, cigars and other smoked tobacco products and use the images
that have been licensed by the European Union and Swiss images on mouth cancer. They will have to be adapted every two years with new images to avoid any blunting of the health messages. In total, there are three series of 14 images that have to be used starting 2010, 2012 and 2014 respectively.

The national quit line number 0848 000 181, operated by the Swiss Cancer League and the Swiss Association for Smoking Prevention, will also have to
be included into the pictorials on every pack.
