HungaryOn December 22, 2011, the Hungarian government finalized legislation that required pictorial health warnings to cover 30% of the front and 40% of the back of smoked tobacco packages. The warning requirements came into force at the manufacturer level on September 1, 2012. Hungary rotates through three sets of 14 warnings.
A new set of larger warnings were implemented August 20, 2016. The new warnings must cover 65% of the front and back of the package. Retailers were given 9 months (until May 20, 2017) to transition to packages displaying the new warnings.
Plain packaging requirements were finalized on August 16, 2016, and will come into force on May 20, 2019.
