Romania

Romania implemented a policy to place health warnings on cigarette packages starting July 1, 2008. Health warnings will be required to cover 43% of the front and 53% of the back of all cigarette packages. Overall 48% of the package space has been appropriated for health warnings, including the border. Fourteen health warnings are rotated on cigarette packages.

Romania also prohibits the terms “light” and “mild” from appearing on packages.

As well, Romania requires tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide emission numbers to appear on the side of packages. These emission numbers are generated using the ISO smoking method.
